Dip nib calligraphy pen does not work?
I used to practice caalligraphy when I was younger. I just had the kind with cartridges. Today I bought a handful of basic and fine pen. I have some ink of a sale of garage. It was fine when I started using it. I got a letter and kind of wavy taken on paper and almost cut through. Now it does not seem to work. I tried bending the pen to be tight and loose. What can / should I do?
Those feathers are made from spring steel. Once you fold them, they are bent. They are made to flex but not bend. Basically, you have ruined the pen you use. However, replacement pins are not that expensive. Go to an art supply store and get a couple of new and practice. Try a couple of different sizes and shapes to see what kind of effects you can get. Remember to get a pot of cleaning pen solution while you are there. Clean tips after each use to make them work longer. And keep practicing.
