Why does anybody who is not a white male celebrate July 4th as Independence Day?

In many countries around the world, "Independence Day" is the date that that particular nation gained independence from its colonizing country. In the case of the United States, the only group that gained independence were the white men who continued slavery and continued oppressing their women for years to come. So why do people celebrate it? I mean it's good having the family over, eating some bbq and watching fireworks and all, but do you really know what you are celebrating?

I don't celebrate it first and foremost because I'm not a patriot. That was not the day that my people got their independence. This country doesn't respect me enough for me to do that. But I will attend the cookouts to the people who do celebrate it, free good food is free good food.
