Cast iron grill smoke?
Whenever I try to use my cast iron grill (the kind you put over two stove burners) he smokes terribly and triggers the smoke detectors. I used canola oil to season it. I use the exhuast fan and had open windows, but I ended up having to turn it off. What am I doing wrong?
If you season it with oil, then do not wipe it dry completely, or too often this season, then the residual oil smoke when heated. The cast can not contain much oil, and if you strongly all season that once you use it, it probably is too. Really, a light wipe when finished, or perhaps even each other, will be fine. Too much residual oil can become a fire hazard.
