why are some drinks served with 2 straws?

I was wondering why some beverages are served with 2 straws? My friend said that it's for sharing but I'm sure there's another reason... especially cause we always drink out of both of them.

You are quite right! There is a reason why sometimes two straws are provided.

The reason is Quinine, a bitter medicinal found in tonic water and other drinks, can be used to subjectively rate the bitterness of a substance.Units of dilute quinine hydrochloride (1g in 2000mL of water) can be used to measure the threshold bitterness concentration, the level at which the presence of a dilute bitter substance can be detected by a human taster, of other compounds.
Thus having two straws enchances flavours, in addition you will finish your drink quicker, and therefore most likley buy more.

so to conclude

- enchance flavour
- faster drinking = more money to the restaruant/club/bar etc
